On Tuesday, February 28, 2023, Ernestine Berry, a resident at The Parker Jewish Institute, celebrated her 108th birthday. Ernestine was born and raised in Alabama, and later moved to California. She was the eldest of 12 children. Ernestine moved to New York, left her job as a bus driver in California, and began her career as a teacher's assistant in New York. In her 50-year career, she emboldened her students, and created lasting relationships. Many of her students have remained in touch with Ernestine, often calling and visiting her.
Ernestine had one son, and has five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She has a close relationship with her granddaughter, Paulette Glen, a school teacher.
At age 108, Ernestine radiates kindness and wisdom. We at Parker are truly honored that Ernestine has entrusted us with her care, and we wish her a Happy Birthday, and many more years to come!
