Willing Hearts, Helpful Hands is an innovative community program serving family caregivers in Queens, Nassau, and Suffolk Counties by connecting them with a circle of help that includes trained volunteers who provide an array of respite services. Our well-trained volunteers provide family caregivers of older adults with the time to meet self-care needs, as well as other family obligations, at no cost. Without help in the daily tasks of care-giving, the risk to your health and well being is as real as it is to your loved one. That is why the volunteers of Willing Hearts, Helpful Hands provide the assistance you need, on a schedule designed to allow you the time, personal space and freedom that is essential for healthy living.

Our mission is to improve the quality of life for family caregivers of older adult loved ones by engaging the broader community to provide assistance and respite services.

The program is offered by Parker Jewish Institute for Health Care and Rehabilitation, in cooperation with partnering community organizations and is funded by a grant from the New York State Department of Health.

Hope and Healing is a new community program of Parker Jewish Institute for Health Care and Rehabilitation supporting the caregivers of older adults with dementia and a history of trauma. Family caregivers of older adults with dementia and a history of trauma face a number of unique challenges, including: trauma-related symptoms in their loved ones that can be frightening, or difficult to manage, along with fears of re-traumatizing their loved ones while dealing with their cognitive symptoms.

Through the Hope and Healing Program, we hope to address the unique challenges faced by family caregivers of older adults with dementia and a history of trauma, by providing person-centered, trauma-informed approaches and services that can help ameliorate these challenges and promote the health and well- being of this uniquely vulnerable population.

This service is supported by a grant from The JFNA Center on Holocaust Survivor Care and Institute on Aging and Trauma. To learn more visit Jewish Federation of North America (JFNA).

Services include: Helpline – (516) 586-1509, educational programs, wellness programs, individual and family consultations (in-home, virtual or by telephone), care coordination and referrals, support groups, counseling, and social programs.

Services are free and available to caregivers of and older adults with dementia and a history of trauma.
